Taylor Wimpey: Our work with Taylor Wimpey has mapped the carbon in the supply chains of one of the UK’s largest housing builders, providing an overview of operational and embodied emissions from the construction of 10,000 homes in 2009 and 2010. This has been used to select four areas which are now the focus for business improvement at a detailed level.

The Science Museum: Our work with the Science Museum was to help them to understand and manage the embodied and operational carbon resulting from their Atmosphere exhibition. It allowed them to lead by example when communicating the carbon agenda to the public.

E H Booths (Supermarkets): Our work with Booths has put them at the leading edge of UK food retail responses to climate change. They were the first UK supermarket chain to publish a transparent analysis of the greenhouse gas emissions in their food supply chains and now practise an integrated, systematic approach to carbon management throughout the business. Greater Manchester County Council: Our work on Manchester’s ‘Total Carbon Footprint’ has put in place consumption based carbon metrics for Greater Manchester and its districts for both residents and industry.

The Lake District National Park Authority: With our help the LDNPA became the first government authority to adopt a local carbon budget. They are currently working toward targets to reduce both the direct and the embodied emissions from residents and visitors. Read the report.

West Sussex County Council is adopting a similar approach to the LDNPA, making them the first County Council to adopt a local carbon budget.

The National Trust: We mapped the direct and indirect carbon at a show-case property and helped to explore how this could be managed and how carbon literacy could become part of the visitor attraction.

Lancaster University: Working with Small World, the University now has a comprehensive carbon footprint analysis including its supply chains. We have also been involved in numerous academic projects including ‘carbon critical moments’ in individual consumption of food, the carbon implications of dietary choice and consumption based carbon metrics.

Historic Scotland: Small World (with Crichton Carbon Centre) provided three reports on the embodied carbon and operational impacts of refurbishment and rebuild options for traditional buildings. This also led to an analysis of the truncation error in processed based LCAs in the construction industry.

Cumbria Tourism: 2007 and 2009 Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions assessments. Development of an online tool for tourism businesses to make broad assessments of scope 3 emissions. The tools is available for download here.

Crichton Carbon Centre: Licensed use of Small World’s toolsets with around 50 SMEs in Dumfries and Galloway.

Connect Plus: Modelling greenhouse gasses on upland dairy farms and delivering sustainability advice.
