Practical Responses

Small World works with organisations of all sizes in many sectors. Our clients range from government and Plcs, to SME’s and individuals. We provide practical information and guidance so that all of these may manage their impacts and benefit from their action.

Our approach is to look at the total picture, with realistic treatment of uncertainties and a transparent robust methodology. We give people the information they need and we encourage them to view it with fresh eyes. We don’t tell you what to do, but we do help you to see and explore the options. . It is about discovering ways in which life and work can be made better – however you might define that. Our work is all about providing insight to enable change.

Our clients include:

E H Booths (Supermarkets): Our work with Booths has put them at the leading edge of UK food retail responses to climate change. They were the first UK supermarket chain to publish a transparent analysis of the greenhouse gas emissions in their food supply chains and now practise an integrated, systematic approach to carbon management throughout the business. Greater Manchester County Council: Our work on Manchester’s ‘Total Carbon Footprint’ has put in place consumption based carbon metrics for Greater Manchester and its districts for both residents and industry.

The Lake District National Park Authority: With our help the LDNPA became the first government authority to adopt a local carbon budget. They are currently working toward targets to reduce both the direct and the embodied emissions from residents and visitors. Read the report.

West Sussex County Council is adopting a similar approach to the LDNPA, making them the first County Council to adopt a local carbon budget.
